CAMO Participates in NADRA’s First Deck for a Soldier Project of 2023

The CAMO brand of deck tools and fasteners has proudly taken part in the North American Deck and Railing Association’s (NADRA) first Deck for a Soldier project of 2023. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, Frederick Redline, 92, of Monroe Township, N.J., received a ramp and front porch, making it possible for him to access his front entryway and enjoy some fresh air outdoors. NADRA’s Deck for a Soldier program organizes deck builders, manufacturers and suppliers to honor those who preserve our freedom.

“The Deck for a Soldier program is our way to give back to the men and women who defend our nation,” says Katey Dommenick, National Nail brand marketing director. “Thanks to the best deck builders New Jersey has to offer, we’ve given Fred the freedom to enter and exit his home, just in time to enjoy the beautiful spring weather.”

Previously serving on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, Redline, the father of 11 children, has dementia and is now confined to a wheelchair, which his current home could not accommodate. Thanks to NADRA and its members’ generosity, Fred can be moved in and out of his home without being carried up and down the concrete steps.

“When we started looking into having an ADA ramp built for our dad, the Veteran’s Administration suggested we apply to the Deck for a Soldier program,” explains Patty Reid, Redline’s daughter. “We were only expecting one or two contractors, but then almost 20 showed up and finished the ramp and deck in only two and a half days! It was so heartwarming to see everyone come together to help our father.”

Using low-maintenance composite decking and CAMO innovative tools and fasteners, the construction process was fast and seamless, due to the exceptional skill of NADRA’s volunteers. They provided Redline with a beautiful, expanded porch and durable ramp that will require little upkeep.

“My dad is so thankful for the porch and ramp from Deck for a Soldier, and his ability to be outside in the sunshine,” says Patty. “The volunteers were absolutely amazing.”
