The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) June 8, 2023. This esteemed opportunity commemorates USGBC’s 30-year anniversary and our community’s role in creating the green building industry. The opening bell marks a significant milestone in USGBC’s journey to transform the built environment and drive market transformation through green building leadership.

“We are honored to be invited to ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange, along with our Platinum level member Bank of America, which has been a partner and USGBC member since 1997,” says Peter Templeton, president & CEO, USGBC. “This event represents the collective impact of all our members, partners, and stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to drive sustainability and make a positive difference in communities worldwide. We are proud of what we have achieved together and remain committed to our mission of creating a sustainable and regenerative future.”

For over three decades, USGBC has been at the forefront of promoting environmentally responsible practices, shaping policies, and setting standards for green building. Through the LEED green building program, USGBC and its green building community have revolutionized the construction industry, creating a global benchmark for sustainability, and driving the adoption of sustainable building practices in over 180 countries.

The bell-ringing ceremony at the NYSE is a momentous occasion that signifies USGBC’s commitment to working with leading publicly traded corporations and organizations from all sectors to transform the building industry, promote sustainable practices, and create healthier, more environmentally responsible spaces. Through its initiatives, USGBC continues to drive meaningful climate action and shape the future of the built environment. The bell-ringing event provides a platform to showcase accomplishments, acknowledge the efforts of dedicated USGBC members, and inspire further action toward a more sustainable built environment.

By ringing the opening bell at the NYSE, USGBC aims to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable building practices, encourage further adoption of green building, and highlight the role of the building sector in mitigating climate change, improving public health and creating vibrant communities for all. The event served as a tribute to our community’s dedication, collaborative efforts, and commitment to sustainability.
