Report Details Benefits of PVC Pipe for Water Infrastructure

The Vinyl Institute has released a report detailing the benefits of PVC pipe for water infrastructure. The report utilizes nearly seven decades of scientific research and real-life case studies to document the high quality of PVC pipe, as well as its benefits to American taxpayers.

“Other types of pipes can’t compare with the performance of PVC for our water infrastructure,” says Ned Monroe, president and CEO of the Vinyl Institute. “PVC has a decades-long history of being the most successful material in delivering clean and safe drinking water, as backed up by research-based evidence.”

The report outlines numerous ways in which PVC pipe outperforms its competitors as they relate to water infrastructure, including:

    • PVC pipes are built to last up to 100 years.
    • PVC is the most durable material on the market, which leads to a considerable reduction in costs for replacements or repairs.
    • Throughout its full life cycle, PVC uses considerably less energy than other piping materials.
    • PVC saves American taxpayers money – ductal iron pipes have been found to be up to 70% more expensive than PVC alternatives.

The report also combats misinformation about PVC’s impact on the environment, dispelling myths and proving that PVC has been rigorously tested to be the safest and best option for water infrastructure around the world.
