Families and residents of Kissimmee, a suburb of Orlando, Fla., can now enjoy a new, fully refurbished basketball court at a local community center thanks to a collaborative effort and donation by Orlando Magic, GAF, AdventHealth and the City of Kissimmee.
The court, located at the Kissimmee City Chamber Park Community Center, a popular recreation area for families and children in the neighborhood, was revealed to the community on Jan. 10 at an unveiling event held by Orlando Magic, GAF and AdventHealth. Local residents, including 60 children who were treated to a hoops clinic on the redesigned court, attended the event, as well as Orlando Magic players Chuma Okeke and Caleb Houstan, and Kissimmee Mayor Olga Gonzalez.
GAF donated material for the court and covered the costs of installation labor. As part of the project, GAF applied its solar-reflective pavement coating to the asphalt court. The colorful coating mitigates heat while adding protection and has been proven to reduce surface temperature on average by 10 degrees during the daytime on sunny days. With this innovative technology installed, community members will both feel and be cooler while on the court.
The collaboration is part of GAF’s social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, which is focused on making a positive difference as neighbors and partners by leveraging roofing expertise, resources and products to help build resilient communities.
