Accoya Wood Siding Now Can Be Used in Wildland-Urban Interface Designated Areas

Accsys, the fast-growing company that enhances wood’s natural properties to make high-performance and sustainable building materials, is pleased to announce that Accoya wood 3/4-inch and 1-inch tongue and groove (T&G) siding used in an exterior wall assembly met Wildland-Urban Interface requirements.

ICC NTA tested Accoya wood siding at its Bryan Test Lab, located in Bryan, Texas.

Accoya wood T&G siding was independently tested within a specific wall assembly (see illustration) and met the wall or ceiling finishes criteria under ASTM E2707, which assesses fire penetration of exterior wall assemblies using the 10-minute direct flame exposure. The exterior wall assembly can be used for new buildings in WUI areas or any Fire Hazard Severity Zone within State Responsibility Areas.

“The exterior wall assembly’s WUI compliance underscores Accoya’s commitment to performance, sustainability, and environmental responsibility, especially in fire-prone areas,” said Sergio Munhoz, sales director for Accsys in North America. “This accomplishment reinforces our dedication to providing our customers with reliable and innovative solutions for fire-resistant construction.”

Accoya brings unprecedented reliability to wood with a 50-year above-ground and 25-year in-ground and freshwater warranty. Manufactured from fast-growing and renewable FSC certified sources (C012330), it is one of the few building products to be Cradle to Cradle Certified Gold. It will not visibly shrink, swell, or warp, making it ideal for use in windows, doors, decking, and siding.
