In recognition of Building Safety Month, Allegion US recently launched Fire Door Inspections: The Essential Guide to help facility, safety and security professionals better understand and prepare for required fire door inspections.
“As awareness of building safety continues to grow, enforcement of fire door inspection requirements is also increasing at both state and local levels,” shared Lori Greene DAHC/CDC, CCPR, FDAI, FDHI, founder of the iDigHardware blog. “Fire doors are a critical yet often overlooked component of a building’s passive fire protection system, and many facility teams are unsure what inspectors are looking for or how to maintain compliance year over year. My team and I created this guide to demystify the process, address common misconceptions, and help professionals approach inspections with confidence.”
Fire door assemblies are required by NFPA 80 to be inspected by a qualified person, after installation, after maintenance or repair work, and annually, to ensure that they are functioning properly. These documented inspections and the repair of deficiencies noted are crucial steps in maintaining code-compliance and ensuring proper performance.?
The e-book includes:
- Where the inspection requirements are found in the model codes and referenced standards
- A summary of the NFPA 80 requirements
- A list of the 13 fire door inspection criteria
- Educational articles on each of the fire door inspection criteria
