In support of its mission to create flourishing communities, Kronberg Urbanists + Architects (KUA) has released the 2026 Housing Choice Catalog. This toolkit for development professionals, city planners and anyone interested in creating better, more attainable housing highlights the firm’s housing inventory and offers foundational concepts for ensuring housing choice success across scales of development.
“Housing choice is a core principle for KUA and is foundational to our work; it’s not separate from our multidisciplinary practice, it’s what ties it all together,” said Eric Kronberg, principal, KUA. “We know that delivering on a truly multifaceted approach isn’t easy. It requires a range of expertise that most teams aren’t structured to bring under one roof. That’s where we focus our effort. The catalog is one way we’re working to connect those dots, bringing together knowledge across sectors so more developers, in more places, can actually put these ideas into practice.”
By explaining the “housing mismatch” in the U.S., caused by restrictive zoning codes and demographic shifts since the 20th century, the Housing Choice Catalog offers solutions aimed at addressing the problem from multiple sectors — building codes, development, finance, urban design and zoning.
To make the catalog actionable, KUA includes inventory using a kit-of-parts logic that approaches housing on two scales: architectural and urban design. After demonstrating how this modular-by-design solution can be implemented, the catalog offers examples in practice. Finally, the inventory of cottages, packs, rows, plexes and small commercial infill provides users with options to choose from that can be tailored to nearly any site.
The Housing Choice Catalog exists in two formats, allowing it to be an accessible, dynamic resource. The print catalog, available for purchase, is an easy-to-use reference guide. It includes a high-level collection of KUA’s most popular designs. The web version is a living collection of the designs and will be periodically updated with the full range of the firm’s housing options.
“KUA has had the opportunity to work with clients across the country while also developing and designing projects in metro Atlanta utilizing these principles,” said Kronberg. “What our experience has shown is that from Cape Cod to Memphis to Washington state, meaningful impact and lasting change comes down to relatively moderate policy shifts, paired with intentional, well-executed development. When those pieces align, housing becomes more attainable, more responsible and ultimately more successful for communities and the people who call them home.”
KUA released its first Housing Choice Catalog in 2022. The new edition includes an expanded introduction, project examples and a case study, solutions for common roadblocks, updated pricing, and a review of how housing currently works in the U.S. and what can be done to make it work better for more people.
