FastenMaster, a division of OMG Building Products, has introduced Ground Contact Coating to extend the life of pressure-treated lumber used in deck & fence posts, and other outdoor applications.
The new coating extends the life of pressure-treated wood by protecting against ground rot. The unique formula goes on white so PROs can see what’s been coated and dries clear to preserve the original color and texture of the wood, allowing natural patterns and characteristics to remain visible.
Formulated with 1 percent Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (DOT) to resist insects and fungus, the new Ground Contact Coating is a long-lasting water-based acrylic membrane that repels the elements that cause ground rot.
Homeowner expectations for the lifespan of outdoor projects have risen alongside advances in composite decking, increasing pressure on contractors to address durability challenges associated with wood, particularly with moisture-prone areas such as posts, stair stringers, and more.
FastenMaster Ground Contact Coating comes in 1/2-gallon buckets which covers 40 square feet, equal to 14 6×6 wood posts. The coating is applied with a standard bristle paint brush or a 3/8-inch nap roller. Prior to curing, the coating can be easily cleaned up with soap and warm water.
