Fundació Mies van der Rohe Launches Call for Entries to the 5th Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture

The Fundació Mies van der Rohe launches the call for the 5th Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture with the aim of continuing to generate research and debate on modern and contemporary architecture. This is done in dialogue with current paradigm shifts, paying special attention to diversity, inclusion, and the different dimensions of sustainability.

On the occasion of this 5th edition, special attention will be given to research proposals related to the figure, work, legacy, and professional context of Lilly Reich. However, this thematic focus does not exclude the submission of proposals centered on any other geographical context, historical period, or line of research aligned with the general objectives.

Researchers, either individually or in groups, can apply for the 5th Lilly Reich Grant for Equality in Architecture by submitting a proposal in accordance with the rules of the call available on the Fundació Mies van der Rohe website. Read them here.

Proposals must be submitted by 2 September 2026 (14:00 CET)

    Previous Editions

Previous editions of the grant have resulted in significant contributions, both in the form of scientific articles and other formats of documentation:

    • Artistic intervention at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, scientific article, and publication ‘Lilly Reich in Barcelona: The Materialization of a Neglected Authorship’: Re-enactment: Lilly Reich’s Work Occupies the Barcelona Pavilion
    • Documentary [On set with] Lilly Reich
    • Searchable database and exhibition at the ETSAB: Anna Bofill Levi. L’Arquitectura com a contracant (1977-1996).
    • Documentary Transnational Narratives: A Documentary celebrating South Asian Women in Architecture

Re-enactment: Lilly Reich’s Work Occupies the Barcelona Pavilion: Laura Martínez de Guereñu

Re-enactment consisted of an artistic intervention as a material response to the invisibility of Lilly Reich’s work. It stems from a clear motivation: to reveal the architecture that Lilly Reich designed for the German sections of the 1929 International Exposition inside eight Noucentista palaces—an area fifty times larger than that of the Pavilion itself. More information here.

[On set with] Lilly Reich: Avelina Prat, Laura Lizondo i Débora Domingo

A short film that combines original documentary sources with newly created visual material. It reflects the limited recognition in Lilly Reich’s professional sphere—as is the case for so many other women—contrasting what she contributed (what was done) with what was said about her (what was narrated). More information here.

Anna Bofill Levi. L’Arquitectura com a contracant (1977-1996): María Elia Gutiérrez Mozo, José Parra Martínez, Ana Gilsanz Díaz i Joaquín Arnau Amo

An interactive digital format that constitutes a biographical, professional, intellectual, and emotional atlas of Anna Bofill. It compiles archival records and several of her libraries; photographic records and visits to a selection of buildings representative of her architectural evolution; a detailed analysis of her musical production; as well as stimulating conversations between the research team and the author herself. Special care was taken to diagram and link her contributions across different fields: architecture, music, her writings, and gender activism. More information here.

Transnational Narratives: A Documentary celebrating South Asian Women in Architecture: Igea Troiani, Mamuna Iqbal, Paula Roush i Rime Tsujino

The documentary Transnational Narratives gives a voice to architects of South Asian origin trained between India, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom. The film explores professional trajectories shaped by migration, activism, sustainability, and the struggle for access and recognition in patriarchal contexts. The compiled stories display architecture as a multifaceted and committed practice: a discipline that combines design, teaching, research, and social action, focusing on empathy, ethics, and environmental responsibility.
