MODERN HOME WITH METAL PANELS, Westerville, Ohio

    ARCHITECT AND HOMEOWNER: Jason Stults

    WALL PANEL INSTALLER: Prime Construction

WALL PANEL SUPPLIER: ABC Supply Co.

    MATERIALS

Opaline metal wall panels in Matte Black, .040 aluminum, in a 6-inch width were chosen by the architect/homeowner, Jason Stults. Opaline is a series of structural panels that can be installed on open framing (subject to design considerations). The panels install as an enhanced tongue-in-groove design with improved mechanical fastener clearance. The fasteners are hidden by the adjacent panel.

Panels are available with smooth, stucco-embossed or wood-grain-embossed textures. Suitable applications for Opaline are walls, vertical fascia, soffits, ceilings, sign bands and an alternative for EIFS, laminated or extruded panels. Opaline also can be manufactured in steel, copper and zinc, as well as three other profiles. Aluminum and steel panels are available in more than 40 stock colors in a 70 percent PVDF paint finish.

    THE RETROFIT

This home achieved 1st Place in the Residential Walls category of ATAS International’s 2021 Project of the Year competition.

“This was one of our most interesting projects to date,” says Johnny Moss of Prime Construction, which installed the metal wall panels on the home. “Our client happens to be an architect and he actually fell in love and bought this house because it was built and lived in by the original architect. [The new homeowner] was very much interested in modernizing the home while paying homage to the original design. We came up with the concept of repurposing the original siding as lath-stained accents to the new design. We loved the idea of having the warm wood contrast with the modern sleek metal siding. He has used ATAS products on some of his commercial properties, which led him down the road to picking the Opaline product for his home.”
