The International Code Council’s Building Safety Month campaign enters its second week with an emphasis on the importance of building safety preparedness on protecting homes and communities from flooding, earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires and more. Preparing and planning for such disasters can significantly mitigate building damage and help create resilient communities around the world.

Week Two: Preparing a Building Safety Plan focuses on best practices to prepare your home and buildings in your community for disasters. Learn essential insights about fire and water safety measures, optimal home maintenance strategies, disaster readiness protocols and effective strategies for mitigating damage caused by natural disasters. Additionally, we’ll explore sustainable practices aimed at fostering a cleaner, greener future for all.

“Building safety starts in the home,” said Stuart Tom, CBO, President of the Code Council Board of Directors. “By planning ahead and preparing for unexpected hazards, together we can create safer and more resilient places to live.”

Communities have begun to issue proclamations declaring May 2024 as Building Safety Month, including the President of the United States for the fourth year in a row. View the proclamations here or submit one here.
