How Giving Back to the Community Benefits the Residential Home Improvement Services Industry

Home improvement services companies directly impact the lives of residents through their projects. But let’s consider the greater communities in which we operate: They support us by using our services. We can make an even greater impact through giving back: We can address community needs, improve living conditions, and create a more vibrant and healthy environment for everyone—thereby strengthening the community.

Recently, DaBella announced a landmark partnership with the Portland Timbers, a Major League Soccer Team in the Portland, Ore., market. . Oregon is where our company originated, and the Timbers are very much a part of the greater Portland community. The Timbers are involved in youth soccer programs, schools, social causes, and the list goes on. Portland is very proud of its soccer club, and we knew we wanted to be part of it.

DaBella and the Timbers will work together on various other community initiatives through Stand Together Week and the Portland Timbers Community Fund.

Through this partnership, DaBella will amplify its home improvement services to Oregonians, including a program where DaBella will build new roofs for fan-nominated families in need. DaBella and the Timbers will also work together on various other community initiatives through Stand Together Week and the Portland Timbers Community Fund. In addition, DaBella will serve as a co-presenting sponsor for all Timbers Youth Camps.

When companies like ours actively contribute to the community and become more visible citizens, they build trust and goodwill with residents. This can lead to stronger relationships, increased customer loyalty, and a more positive reputation for the industry. Remodeling and home-improvement services companies have unique insight into the needs of the communities they work in. Additionally, top talent could seek employers with concise social responsibility values. By actively giving back, home improvement companies can attract and retain skilled workers, leading to a stronger workforce and higher-quality projects. Corporate social responsibility is becoming equally important to consumers. Engaging in community projects can enhance a company’s brand image and differentiate it from competitors.

Beyond the tangible benefits, giving back also fosters a sense of purpose and camaraderie within the construction industry itself. It allows employees to connect with the communities they serve and contribute to something larger than themselves. This can lead to increased morale, productivity and a more positive work environment.

In the fall, DaBella made a sizable donation—more than $180,000—to the Breast Cancer Foundation. This was one of many contributions from our company: DaBella is a values-based, family business, and giving back is part of our DNA. The company reached this milestone through a variety of initiatives, including financial contributions related to customer appointments, internal fundraising with employee participation and proceeds from the sale of branded merchandise. We’ve been donating to this organization for several years, and 2023 was our largest contribution to date.

DaBella has been donating to the Breast Cancer Foundation for several years, and 2023 culminated in its largest contribution to date.

Overall, giving back is not just a “feel-good” exercise. By embracing a culture of philanthropy and social responsibility, the industry can build stronger relationships, contribute to a better future, and solidify its place as a valued and respected partner within the community.

And building positive relationships in the communities where they do business will enable home improvement companies to open doors to new opportunities. This can include partnerships with local businesses, referrals from satisfied residents and participation in community-led development projects. By actively giving back, the industry can create a positive cycle of community improvement, business growth, and employee satisfaction. It’s a win-win for everyone involved, and it’s essential for the long-term success and sustainability of the industry.
